In the news.... Motor Club seeking to be competitor friendly
With entries for rallies suffering a decline in recent years due to the prevailing economic situation, Enniskillen Motor Club intends to consult with competitors as they plan their 2012 season.
Last season several rallies in Northern Ireland were cancelled due to lack of entries and although the Lakeland Stages, Enniskillen's flagship event, attracted a decent entry, the club are well aware they may have to change with the times if they are to buck the current trend and recruit bigger numbers.
"We are going to be competitor friendly this year" said the rally's new clerk of the course Gerry Cavanagh. "Last year we took a chance and reduced the number of different stages from five to three and ran them three times. The thought was that that would reduce the costs because you need fewer ambulances and rescrue crews and things like that, but I don't think it worked and weather didn't fare and the ground cut up very badly and competitors were complaining about how rough it was"
In a bid to put on the best possible rally Gerry is askng interested parties to let the club know what they think would improve their Lakeland Stages experience.'
